5 Tips for Planning Your Marketing

E12. 5 Tips for Planning Your Marketing

I haven’t met a business owner yet (including myself) who doesn’t have times where they struggle with knowing what content should be in their marketing, whether that’s for Social Media, Blog Posts or Emails.

But I also know that with a bit of focused time and head space, it’s not too hard to create a plan, structure, written content and calendar timeline to nail your marketing content for at least 3 months at a time.

Here are 5 tips for getting started.

1) Make time and space. Block time out, where you won’t be interrupted, where you can have a clear head to consider the best way of achieving your goals. Who to target, where and how to reach them.

2) Know where you’re heading. What are you expecting your marketing to do for you, what results do you want? Setting some goals is the first step in planning your content.

3) Be specific. The narrower you can be with who you are targeting and what you want to achieve the better results you will get. I’ve had many business owners say, ‘Well I’m for everyone, anyone can buy from me’. Yes but do they? Honestly, you will have a ‘perfect’ customer and you need to understand who they are. You can introduce a second stream later for a different niche but pick one to start.

4) Plan your topics. Work out which topics you want to include in your marketing and plan different types of content according to the platform(s) you are using. Start with one or two and add more later. Write the copy, gather photos and use a Calendar or publishing tool to plan as much as possible.

5) Do more than you think. Create enough content to be consistently and regularly showing up. People will scroll past or delete emails when they don’t have time. But consistently showing up means you are front of mind when they are ready to buy from you.
